Synopsis

Set against the backdrop of late 1980s Tokyo, ordinary college student Touya Fujii struggles to maintain an honest relationship with his childhood sweetheart, Yuki Morikawa. As Yuki rapidly ascends to national pop idol stardom under strict agency management, the demands of celebrity culture force the young couple into painful physical separation. Isolated and yearning for intimacy, Touya drifts into complicated emotional entanglements with other women, including Yuki's charismatic rival singer Rina Ogata. Amid wintry snowfalls and show business pressures, their fragile romantic connections fracture under secrets, loneliness, and misunderstandings.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Adapted from the classic adult visual novel developed by Leaf and Aquaplus, *White Album* was produced by studio Seven Arcs and directed by Akira Yoshimura. Broadcast in winter 2009 across thirteen episodes, the anime earned acclaim for its melancholic vintage visual aesthetic, realistic romantic dilemmas, and memorable voice work by Nana Mizuki and Aya Hirano. The series successfully captured the nostalgic tone of the late Showa pop music landscape, paving the way for a second cour later that same year.
