Biography
Shizuo Kurahashi is a veteran Japanese sound effects artist born in 1948 in Niigata Prefecture [2]. He founded and serves as representative director of Sound Box, the Tokyo-based sound effects company behind the foley and effects work on hundreds of anime, television dramas, and films [1][2]. His anime credits stretch from Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro through Cowboy Bebop, Cardcaptor Sakura, Macross F, and the Kara no Kyoukai film series, and continue into recent work on Fullmetal Alchemist, Bungo Stray Dogs, Darker than Black, Dororo, Attack on Titan, and My Hero Academia [1][2]. More recent projects include the film Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window (2023) and SK8 the Infinity Extra Part (2025) [3]. Across a career of more than 400 credited productions, Kurahashi has become one of the industry's most prolific sound-effects specialists, the craftsperson responsible for the footsteps, impacts, and ambient texture that give anime action its physical weight, even though that work rarely draws attention on its own.
