LifeHaki publishes an aggregate critic score for anime titles, similar in spirit to sites like Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes. This page explains, in plain terms, where those scores come from and how we calculate them, so readers and the outlets we cite both know exactly what they’re looking at.
What we do
For each anime title, we collect scores and short excerpts from reviews already published by outside critics and publications, convert each score to a common 0–100 scale, and average them into a single number once enough reviews exist for a title. We link every citation back to the original, full review on the source’s own website.
We do not reproduce full review text. We do not claim any critic or publication endorses LifeHaki or has partnered with us. Being listed here means only that we have cited a specific, publicly available review they published.
How we source reviews
Reviews come from two places:
- Verified critics on LifeHaki. Individuals who apply, are approved by our editorial team, and write reviews directly on our platform.
- Cited external reviews. Reviews that a critic or publication has already published elsewhere. Our editorial team locates the original review, records the score (or derives one, see below), a short representative quote, the original publication date, and a link to the full review.
We do not source scores from other review-aggregation sites — only from the reviewing outlet’s own original publication.
How we convert scores to our 0–100 scale
Different outlets score differently — out of 10, out of 5, in stars, in letter grades, or simply “recommended” / “not recommended.” We convert every score using a fixed, published conversion table, so the same input always produces the same output:

When a review gives no score at all, we don’t guess. We score it against a fixed five-point rubric — the critic’s overall verdict, the balance of praise to criticism in the piece, the presence of strong recommend/avoid language, how the review positions the title against genre peers, and any stated lasting impression — and convert the result to our 0–100 scale using the same formula every time. Reviews scored this way are marked “derived from review text” wherever they appear on the site, so readers can see the number came from our reading of the piece rather than a score the critic assigned themselves.
Displaying and averaging scores
A title’s aggregate score only appears once we have at least three qualifying critic reviews for it. Below that, individual review citations still display, just without a headline aggregate number. Reviews with no real numeric signal (a bare recommend/not-recommend) are shown as citations but excluded from the numeric average by default.
Attribution and requests
Every cited review links to the original, full piece on the source’s own site. If you are a critic or publication and would like a citation corrected, updated, or removed, contact us at support@lifehaki.com and we will act on it promptly.
