Story

Synopsis

Directed by Kitaro Kosaka, this tender animated drama follows sixth-grade student Oriko Okko Seki, whose parents are tragically killed in a highway car crash. Orphaned and grieving, Okko moves to the rural countryside to live with her grandmother Mineko, who runs the traditional Hananoyu hot spring ryokan Haru no Ya. Soon after her arrival, Okko discovers she can see friendly spirits: a mischievous ghost boy named Uribo, who was her grandmother's childhood companion, and a playful blonde rival spirit named Miyo. Encouraged by her ghostly friends, Okko trains to become the inn's junior innkeeper.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Okko welcomes eccentric guests, including a grieving father and his sickly son, curing their emotional exhaustion through hot spring cuisine and hospitality. However, Okko's emotional resilience is tested when the driver who accidentally caused her parents' fatal crash arrives at the inn with his family, racked with guilt. Overcoming her initial anguish, Okko serves them with pure, compassionate grace, providing them healing hot spring waters. The spirits Uribo and Miyo reveal that their spiritual duty on Earth is finished, ascending to heaven as Okko embraces her future as Haru no Ya's proud head innkeeper.
