Synopsis
Following harrowing cosmic warfare against Hades, Pegasus Seiya is left catatonic and wheel-chair bound, his life force cursed by the underworld deity sword. When lunar goddess Artemis descends with divine executioners to claim Sanctuary, Athena relinquishes her earthly sovereignty in exchange for Seiya physical restoration. Awaking to find his homeland occupied and Athena walking toward sacrificial martyrdom, Seiya crawls from his sickbed. Reunited with Shiryu, Hyoga, Shun, and Ikki, the Bronze Saints challenge heavenly Olympian Angels, burning their mortal Cosmo against overwhelming divine authority to forge their own destiny.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Released in February 2004 under Toei Animation, this ambitious theatrical feature was directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi and envisioned as the official canonical prologue to a prospective Heaven Chapter franchise arc. Noted for its melancholic philosophical tone, surreal abstract landscapes, and breathtaking cinematic art direction by Michi Himeno and Shingo Araki, the film subverted traditional action expectations. Creative disputes between author Masami Kurumada and Toei Animation halted future sequels, leaving the production as an intriguing artistic tour de force.
