Story

Synopsis

Apollo, the majestic Sun God, descends upon Sanctuary alongside revived Gold Saints to seize control of Earth and return his divine sister Athena to the heavens. When Saori Kido rejects his apocalyptic vision and attempts to strike him down, Apollo sends her soul directly into the underworld abyss of Yomotsu Hirasaka. Determined to save Athena before she falls into eternal damnation, Pegasus Seiya and his Bronze Saint comrades Shiryu, Hyoga, Shun, and Ikki storm Apollo solar temple. Donning golden armors, the gallant warriors burn their celestial Cosmo to overcome solar corona guardians.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Released in July 1988 to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of Weekly Shonen Jump, this acclaimed third *Saint Seiya* theatrical feature was directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi at Toei Animation. Widely considered by fandom to be the finest cinematic installment of Masami Kurumada franchise, the film features exceptional cel animation supervision by Shingo Araki and Michi Himeno. Seiya donning of the Sagittarius Gold Cloth in tandem with Shiryu and Hyoga established iconic cinematic conventions repeated throughout subsequent franchise adaptations.
