Biography
Michiko Yokote has worked as a screenwriter in Japanese television anime since 1990, when the writer Kazunori Ito, acting as a mentor, brought her on to script an episode of Mobile Police Patlabor during her post-graduation job search; that episode, "Ohta's Bewildered Afternoon," became her professional debut [1]. She went on to become one of the medium's most prolific series-composition writers, credited on landmark titles including Rurouni Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop, Bleach, and Gintama, and she wrote head-writer scripts across multiple Super Sentai tokusatsu series between the mid-2000s and early 2020s, including Mahou Sentai Magiranger, Juken Sentai Gekiranger, and Tensou Sentai Goseiger [1]. She frequently collaborates with director Tsutomu Mizushima and fellow screenwriter Reiko Yoshida, pairing with Yoshida on Witchcraft Works and the anime-industry drama Shirobako [1]. In 2018 she and Mizushima jointly announced a new original anime project [2]. Persistent industry rumor has held that "Michiko Yokote" is a pen name for a three-person writing unit split across management, plotting, and dialogue duties, a claim director Shinji Takamatsu has publicly dismissed as an "urban legend" [1].
