Story

Synopsis

High school graduate Kazuki Sendou is an aspiring artist preparing for rigorous college entrance examinations. His orderly life takes a sudden turn when his childhood friend Taishi Kuhonbutsu, a fanatical manga otaku, drags him to Comic Party, Japan's largest amateur doujinshi convention. Dazzled by the passionate creativity and fierce dedication of independent creators selling self-published works, Kazuki is inspired to draw and sell his own amateur comics. Forming his own doujin circle, Kazuki confronts creative self-doubt, strict publishing deadlines, and interpersonal rivalries, discovering true artistic fulfillment within Tokyo's vibrant subculture.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Adapted from Leaf and Aquaplus's popular romance visual novel, *Comic Party* was animated by studio OLM and directed by Norihiko Sudo, broadcasting in spring 2001. Across thirteen episodes, the television series offered an affectionate, detailed behind-the-scenes look at Japan's passionate doujinshi publishing community and the bustling Comiket convention atmosphere. Celebrated for its authentic portrayal of amateur artistic struggles and heartwarming character growth, the anime resonated deeply with anime and manga creators, inspiring generations of independent artists.
