Story

Synopsis

Arriving at the festive carnival celebrating the rare Millennium Comet, Satoshi and his comrades meet former Team Magma scientist turned illusionist Butler. Butler entrusts young Masato with an enchanted crystalline cocoon, from which mythical creature Jirachi awakens from its thousand-year slumber. Bonding closely with Masato over seven brief days, Jirachi brings immense joy. However, Butler betrays their friendship, intending to harness Jirachi cosmic power to resurrect ancient primordial behemoth Groudon. When an uncontrollable pseudo-Groudon abomination begins devouring the valley, Masato and Satoshi fight desperately to return Jirachi safely to sleep.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Debuting in July 2003, this sixth *Pokemon* motion picture inaugurated the *Advanced Generation* cinematic era, directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and animated by OLM. Introducing the Hoenn region iconic mythos, the movie was the second highest-grossing domestic film in Japan that year, earning 4.5 billion yen. Acclaimed for its touching friendship between Masato and Jirachi and the haunting vocal ballad *Chiisaki Mono* performed by Asuca Hayashi, the film remains an emotional staple of modern Pokemon cinema.
