Story

Synopsis

Following the mysterious archaeological disappearance of her father, young orphan Molly Hale stumbles upon an ancient puzzle box containing letter-shaped Unown relics. Channeling her subconscious sorrow and desire for familial protection, the enigmatic entities manifest the legendary beast Entei to pose as her father, while encasing the valley of Greenfield in crystalline spires. When Entei kidnaps Delia Ketchum to act as Molly surrogate mother, Satoshi, Kasumi, and Takeshi storm the surreal fortress. Alongside Charizard, Satoshi must convince Molly to face reality and dispel the Unown dreamworld.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Released theatrically in July 2000 by OLM under the direction of Kunihiko Yuyama, this third *Pokemon* feature film is widely lauded for its emotionally mature screenplay written by Takeshi Shudo. Combining intricate early CGI crystal rendering with traditional 2D character animation, the movie grossed over four billion yen in Japan and performed successfully in North American theaters. It remains renowned for its poignant thematic focus on childhood grief, wish-fulfillment psychology, and dynamic aerial battle choreography.
