In the bustling metropolis of Yokohama, private detectives and cunning phantom thieves clash using special superhuman abilities called Toys. At the elite Holmes Detective Academy, four talented young prodigies, Sherlock, Nero, Hercule, and Cordelia, form the celebrated student agency Milky Holmes. However, following a disastrous confrontation against the notorious criminal syndicate Gentlemen Thieves, all four girls mysteriously lose their Toys completely. Demoted from glory to the academy's worst probationary status, the quirky quartet must rely on bumbling detective work, wild luck, and unwavering friendship to reclaim their powers and solve bizarre urban mysteries.

Conceived by Bushiroad chairman Takaaki Kidani as a multimedia franchise, *Tantei Opera Milky Holmes* was animated by J.C.Staff and directed by Makoto Moriwaki, premiering in autumn 2010. Spanning twelve television episodes, the anime subverted expectations by eschewing serious mystery drama in favor of surreal slapstick comedy, fourth-wall breaking parodies, and chaotic humor. The voice cast, featuring Suzuko Mimori, Sora Tokui, Mikoi Sasaki, and Izumi Kitta, formed a real-life musical idol unit, catapulting the franchise to massive multimedia popularity across Japan.
