Synopsis
The peaceful Kingdom of Deltora falls under the tyrannical dominion of the malevolent Shadow Lord after the seven magical gems embedded in the sacred Belt of Deltora are stolen and scattered across the land. Sixteen years later, young blacksmith apprentice Lief is entrusted by his father with the empty belt on his sixteenth birthday. Joined by Barda, an exiled palace guard, and Jasmine, a fierce orphan girl who communicates with forest animals, Lief embarks on a perilous quest across treacherous wilderness territories. Confronting grotesque sorcery and dangerous beasts, the trio must recover each gem to liberate their people.
Background (may contain spoilers)
Produced by OLM and directed by Mitsuru Hongo, *Deltora Quest* is a 65-episode television adaptation of the bestselling international fantasy children's novel series written by Australian author Emily Rodda. Broadcasting on TV Aichi and TV Tokyo between January 2007 and March 2008, the anime faithfully translated Rodda's puzzle-driven fantasy adventures, cryptic riddles, and vibrant creature designs into traditional animated format. Character designs were provided by Hiroyuki Nishimura, while Kow Otani composed an epic fantasy orchestral soundtrack. The series was widely broadcast globally, introducing international fantasy literature to anime audiences.
