Synopsis

Fifteen years after a catastrophic global war culminated in the devastating drop of hundreds of space colonies onto Earth, human civilization survives in lawless post-apocalyptic ruins. Fifteen-year-old mobile suit scavenger Garrod Ran is hired by a mysterious client to retrieve Tiffa Adill, a silent girl possessing telepathic Newtype abilities. Rescuing her from greedy captors, Garrod awakens the GX-9900 Gundam X, a mobile suit armed with the devastating Satellite Cannon. Joining the mobile land-warship Freeden, Garrod and Tiffa journey across the wasteland to protect innocent Newtypes from warmongering factions.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Airing thirty-nine episodes on TV Asahi from April to December 1996, *After War Gundam X* was produced by Sunrise and directed by Shinji Takamatsu. Set in the alternate After War calendar, the series stood out by exploring the harrowing aftermath of total warfare rather than the conflict itself. Featuring iconic mechanical designs by Kunio Okawara and an energetic orchestral-rock score by Yasuhiko Yasuda, the production achieved lasting affection among Gundam fans for its earnest romantic core and post-apocalyptic optimism.
