An excellent and moving anti-war film. If you do not like sad films or war films, you are going to want to subtract a star or two. This isn't as soul-flaying as some films in the same genre, but many people you get to know will die.

Who's Left Behind?
Ushiro no Shoumen Daare · 1991
A joyful little girl endures the firebombing of Tokyo.
Synopsis
Based on the real childhood experiences of author Kayoko Ebina, this poignant historical drama follows Kayoko, a cheerful, crybaby first-grader growing up in Tokyo's working-class Honjo district during the height of World War II in 1945. Despite strict food rationing, air raid sirens, and the military draft claiming her older brothers, Kayoko's family maintains warmth, humor, and tender musical traditions in their modest home. As American bombing raids intensify over Tokyo, Kayoko's parents make the agonizing decision to evacuate her to a distant countryside temple in Numazu for safety.
