Story

Synopsis

Summer at the Masaki household takes a shocking turn when an affectionate teenage girl named Mayuka appears, joyfully greeting Tenchi Masaki as her beloved father. Bewildered and panicked, Tenchi brings her home, triggering intense suspicion and fierce romantic rivalry among Ryoko, Ayeka, and the alien residents. Scientific gene testing conducted by Washu shockingly confirms Mayuka direct biological parentage, suggesting a future temporal origin. However, lurking beneath Mayuka innocent demeanor lies a sinister psychic duplicate woven by banished sorceress Yuzuha, who schemes to shatter Tenchi family happiness through heartbreaking ancestral vengeance.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Released in August 1997, this second cinematic feature in the *Tenchi Muyo!* anime universe was animated by AIC and directed by Satoshi Kimura. Based on a story premise by original creator Masaki Kajishima and serialized light novel by Naoko Hasegawa, the movie explores emotional vulnerabilities within the eccentric Masaki family dynamic. Celebrated for high-quality cel animation and melancholy thematic undertones, Mayuka tragic character arc provided an unusually poignant drama contrasted with the franchise typical comedic harem antics.
