Created and directed by visionary animator Yohei Kameyama, this kaleidoscopic theatrical release compiles and expands the chaotic sci-fi comedy short series into a continuous cinematic experience. In a delightfully absurd, neon-lit cosmos, the Galactic Limited Express Milky Subway rattles across interdimensional railway tracks, carrying an eclectic passenger manifest of bizarre extraterrestrial beings, robotic conductors, and eccentric commuters. When the train hurtles toward an uncharted interstellar junction, trivial commuter squabbles transform into an unpredictable cosmic odyssey brimming with slapstick visual humor, dazzling colors, and manic retro-futuristic charm.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
A sudden dimensional distortion threatens to derail the Milky Subway into an empty void between parallel universes, causing passenger train cars to warp through unstable space-time anomalies. The quirky passengers unite their eccentric alien abilities, deploying absurd household gadgets and emergency manual levers to stabilize the runaway locomotive. Crashing triumphantly through multiple cosmic barriers, the express train arrives safely at the fabled Theater Station situated at the edge of the universe. The passengers and conductor celebrate their survival with an exuberant, synchronized musical curtain call under glowing galactic stars.
If this review is a little short, well so’s the show. But this keeps the pacing breezy, and the characters have a lot of odd charm. It’s an easy (and fun) watch.
