Three estranged brothers confront lethal psychological phenomena beneath eerie coastal skies.
Synopsis
Ten years after a mysterious oceanic catastrophe devastated the coastal city of Ayanagi, high school student Shin Kanzato and his younger brother Jun return to reunite with their eldest brother Ryo, who serves as the local police chief. The reunion turns grim as bizarre Reverse cases emerge, leaving victims transformed into inverted, lifeless husks. When deadly supernatural entities attack, Shin unexpectedly awakens his Persona, a powerful psychological manifestation. Drawn into hazardous paranormal investigations, the three brothers must uncover dark medical experiments, shadowy scientific syndicates, and painful family secrets tied directly to the tragedy that originally tore them apart.
Background (may contain spoilers)
Produced by A-1 Pictures in collaboration with game developer Atlus, *Persona: Trinity Soul* was directed by Jun Matsumoto and aired in early 2008. Serving as an original television anime project set a decade after the events of the landmark video game Persona 3, the twenty-six episode series features an older incarnation of game protagonist Akihiko Sanada. Celebrated for its atmospheric neo-noir visual design, haunting score by Taku Iwasaki, and complex psychological exploration of grief, the series remains a distinctive chapter in the broader Persona franchise.

“Flashy enough to be worth checking out, with story elements and characters that go a little deeper and darker than the average ghost hunt. As a spinoff of the Persona 3 video game, however, it may leave a lot of fans fooled and disappointed.”
“Under the impressive-looking hood is one of the most jumbled, illogical, and narratively incoherent anime I've seen.”
