Synopsis
The final chapter of the original Gundam trilogy brings the One Year War to the battlefields of outer space. Having escaped the deserts of Earth, the assault carrier White Base joins the Federation fleet in assaults against the Principality of Zeon's orbital fortresses Solomon and A Baoa Qu. Adolescent pilot Amuro Ray awakens into a formidable Newtype whose extraordinary telepathic reflexes outmatch conventional mobile suits. As the Zeon leadership fractures into internal political betrayals, Amuro finds his destiny intertwined with Zeon ace Char Aznable and a tragic young Newtype psychic named Lalah Sune.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Amuro and Lalah achieve a transcendent Newtype mental communion during combat, but Char intervenes, and Lalah sacrifices her life by piloting her mobile armor into Amuro's beam saber to shield Char. Traumatized by her death, Amuro and Char wage a savage final duel inside the crumbling fortress of A Baoa Qu, abandoning their damaged mecha to fight with fencing foils. Sayla Mass halts their duel as the fortress collapses. Amuro abandons his ruined Gundam, using his Newtype telepathy to guide the surviving crew of White Base to safety, finally feeling accepted as part of a family.
