Story
Synopsis
This film retells the first half of Macross Frontier with substantial changes, following Alto Saotome as he is pulled from a stalled acting career into military piloting, and into the orbit of Sheryl Nome, an established galactic superstar performing aboard the fleet. The Vajra attack disrupts everything, Ranka Lee's singing proves connected to the enemy in ways nobody anticipated, and the film treats concerts and combat as equally central components of the same conflict throughout. Every performance sequence doubles as a tactical operation with genuine casualties attached.

Produced by Satelight and directed by Shoji Kawamori, The False Songstress is the first of two Macross Frontier films and diverges considerably from the television series it retells. The Macross franchise has combined transforming aircraft, idol music, and love triangles since 1982, with its songs consistently charting in Japan as genuine commercial releases. Yoko Kanno's work across the Frontier soundtrack is widely regarded as among her strongest contributions to any anime project.
