Synopsis

Daisuke Jigen escorts a woman under threat and finds himself opposed by Yael Okuzaki, an assassin equipped with an implant that makes him functionally impossible to outdraw. Jigen's entire identity rests on being the fastest gun alive, which makes an opponent who is objectively faster a problem no amount of technique resolves. Lupin appears peripherally, but the film belongs to Jigen, stripping the franchise's comedy for a lean, extremely violent story about professional obsolescence. Every second he spends drawing is a second he no longer has to spare.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Takeshi Koike as the first entry in the Lupin the IIIrd series of adult-oriented films, Jigen's Gravestone applies the same angular, high-contrast style Koike used on Redline to the Lupin franchise. These films deliberately abandon the property's family-friendly television register for graphic violence and a considerably darker tone. The series earned strong reception among viewers who appreciated seeing supporting characters given serious dramatic treatment rather than functioning as comedic backup. Its lean structure and graphic violence set the template for the entire subsequent film series.
