Story

Synopsis

Arsene Lupin III faces an impossible ghost from his earliest criminal career when Pycal the Magician mysteriously resurfaces. Presumed dead after their clash years ago, Pycal now wields seemingly supernatural abilities, including spontaneous pyrokinesis, levitation, and absolute deflection of high-caliber bullets. Pycal is determined to collect seven mystical crystal gems that channel unfathomable cosmic power, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. Joining forces with Jigen, Goemon, and Fujiko, Lupin must rely on scientific skepticism, sharp observation, and theatrical deception to expose Pycal deadly optical tricks and survive his wrath.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Released in April 2002 as a direct-to-video original video animation, *Lupin III: Return of Pycal* was produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha and directed by Mamoru Hamatsu. Commemorating the thirtieth anniversary of the original television anime, the OVA brought back one of the franchise most memorable early adversaries from the 1971 green jacket series. Incorporating early 3D computer graphics alongside traditional cel animation and a brooding electronic-jazz musical score by Katsuo Ohno, the release offered a stylish, experimental mystery thriller.
