Story

Synopsis

Arsene Lupin III rushes to the rescue of Fujiko Mine after she acquires the mysterious Columbus files, only to find she has suffered severe amnesia following an explosive helicopter crash. Unable to recall where she hid the vital documents, Fujiko becomes the prime target of a merciless criminal syndicate headed by the corrupt tycoon Burton. To protect Fujiko and unlock the secret of the Columbus Egg, Lupin, Jigen, and Goemon travel across South America. They must decipher historical maritime riddles while battling cybernetic assassins and outrunning Inspector Zenigata stubborn pursuit.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Airing on Nippon TV in July 1999, *Lupin III: The Columbus Files* was produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha and directed by Shunji Oga. The television film placed significant narrative emphasis on the affectionate, complicated emotional dynamic between Lupin and Fujiko, exploring her vulnerability under amnesia. Featuring dynamic aerial dogfights, South American architectural backgrounds, and a spirited Latin jazz-infused soundtrack composed by Yuji Ohno, the special served as a vibrant summer caper for Japanese television audiences.
