Synopsis

In Kyoto in the year 2027, shy high school student Naomi Katagaki lives a quiet, unassertive existence immersed in books. His reality is turned upside down when his future self from ten years later, calling himself Sensei, materializes before him using avatar technology. Sensei reveals that their entire world is actually an ultra-realistic quantum data simulation called Alltale, recorded by Kyoto's automated archive supercomputer. Sensei instructs young Naomi to form a romantic relationship with aloof classmate Ruri Ichigyo, warning him that in three months, Ruri will be struck by lightning during a summer festival and rendered brain-dead.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Young Naomi masters the God's Hand glove to manipulate digital matter, saving Ruri from the lightning strike. However, adult Sensei betrays him, abducting Ruri's consciousness to the real world to revive the real Ruri in the hospital. The automated Alltale system deploys robotic antibodies to eradicate the data anomaly. Young Naomi invades the real world to reclaim Ruri, where a shocking twist is revealed: adult Sensei was the comatose patient all along, trapped in a simulation created by Ruri to awaken his mind. The couple embraces, awakening together in the true real world.
