Story
Synopsis
Shinji Ikari is summoned to Tokyo-3 by the father who abandoned him and immediately told to pilot a giant bio-mechanical machine against a creature that has already destroyed everything sent against it. He is fourteen, unwilling, and given no meaningful choice, and the adults around him treat his compliance as a foregone conclusion. The film covers the opening Angel battles with substantially upgraded animation while establishing Rei Ayanami, Misato Katsuragi, and the specific institutional coldness that defines Shinji's entire situation.
