Story

Synopsis

High school genius Makoto Mizuhara finds his scientific experiments constantly sabotaged by his bitter student council rival, Katsuhiko Jinnai. When a bizarre archaeological relic buried beneath the school activates, Makoto, Jinnai, Makoto's sister Nanami, and their heavy-drinking teacher Fujisawa are transported across dimensions to the fantastical realm of El-Hazard. While Makoto gains the power to synchronize with ancient technology and aligns with the royal court of Princess Rune Venus, the megalomaniacal Jinnai allies with the insectoid Bugrom empire to launch a conquest of the world. With war threatening the continent, Makoto must awaken the sacred priestesses of Mount Muldo to prevent catastrophic destruction.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
El Hazard: The Magnificent World (Shinpi no Sekai El-Hazard) is an iconic seven-episode original video animation (OVA) series created by Hiroki Hayashi and Ryoe Tsukimura, produced by studio AIC and Pioneer LDC in 1995. Celebrated for its sweeping romantic fantasy aesthetic, lavish hand-drawn animation, and memorable character designs by Kazuto Nakazawa, the OVA became an international anime classic. Its popularity led to television retellings, sequel OVA installments, and light novel spin-offs throughout the late 1990s.
