Synopsis

In a post-apocalyptic future, Earth's barren surface is contaminated with pollutants and infested with monstrous mutated arthropods called Filth Monsters. Humanity survives exclusively within Regios, self-contained mobile domed cities that wander across the wastelands. Enrolling in the academic academy city of Zuellni, Layfon Wolfstein desires to study general education and leave his violent martial arts past behind. However, his astonishing internal Dite combat prowess is discovered by student council president Kalian Loss, who coerces him into joining the dysfunctional Seventeenth Military Arts Platoon. Guided by swordswoman Nina Antalk, Layfon wields his blade to protect Zuellni from extinction.

Background (may contain spoilers)

Produced by Zexcs and directed by Itsuro Kawasaki in 2009, *Chrome Shelled Regios* adapts Shusuke Amagi's popular light novel series illustrated by Miyuu. Airing across twenty-four episodes, the television anime gained a dedicated following for its creative blend of military school training, post-apocalyptic sci-fi survival, and intricate internal energy combat systems. Supported by an energetic electronic soundtrack by Yasutaka Nakata and dynamic mecha and insectoid battle animation, the production remains a quintessential mid-2000s fantasy action series.

“Mobile cities battle each other for resources, and bug-like creatures for survival, in this sci fi/fantasy action-adventure series. Although it has some interesting ideas and action, the series does an inadequate job of explaining itself and resolves little in the end.”
