Synopsis

Afflicted with an incurable genetic cellular illness, young ordinary civilian Yuji Kaido is placed into medical cryogenic stasis in the early twenty-first century. Awakening over two decades later, Yuji discovers that modern civilization has completely collapsed, with Earth overrun by the Blue, a ferocious species of giant insectoid predators. Rescued by callous mechanized recovery troops from Second Earth, an orbiting orbital satellite refuge, Yuji is trained to pilot powered armored combat units. Grappling with horrific trauma, combat madness, and existential despair, Yuji fights alongside soldier Marlene Angel to reclaim humanity lost homeworld.

Released in 2002 by studio AIC, this feature film compiles, remasters, and provides an alternate narrative conclusion to Ryosuke Takahashi grim 1999 television series *Blue Gender*. Known for its bleak militaristic realism, gruesome creature violence, and mature psychological exploration of post-traumatic stress and human desensitization, the film compresses the original saga into a cinematic survival epic. Featuring newly animated sequences and altered relationship trajectories between Yuji and Marlene, it stands as an uncompromising dark mecha survival thriller.
