Synopsis
Narita Top Road, Admire Vega, and T.M. Opera O compete through the 1999 Classic Triple Crown, and each of them takes exactly one of the three races. Top Road wants to be the best in the Twinkle Series, Admire Vega is running to reconcile something buried in her past, and T.M. Opera O returns from months of injury determined to be taken seriously. The film adapts real racing history closely enough that the outcomes carry genuine weight, and none of the three gets everything she wanted.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Liao Chengzhi and released in May 2024, this theatrical compilation reworks a four-episode web anime from 2023 with newly animated material. Based on Cygames' mobile game, which reimagines real Japanese racehorses as idol athletes, the Umamusume franchise has earned genuine respect for adapting actual racing history including its disappointments and injuries. Its willingness to follow real outcomes rather than manufacturing victories gives the drama credibility that few game adaptations achieve, and this entry is well regarded within the franchise. Its faithfulness to real race outcomes gives the emotional stakes genuine credibility.
