Synopsis

The Seishun Academy tennis team accepts an all-expenses-paid invitation from eccentric billionaire Hikomaro Sakurafubuki to compete in an exhibition match aboard a luxury cruise ship. Arriving on board, freshman tennis prodigy Ryoma Echizen is stunned to discover that the opposing team's captain is Ryoga Echizen, his estranged adopted older brother. While Seishun initially dominates the exhibition games, they quickly uncover a deadly plot: Sakurafubuki runs an illegal high-stakes gambling syndicate and orders Seishun to throw their matches under threat of armed execution. Refusing to yield, Ryoma and Ryoga duel on the high seas to settle family honor.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Takayuki Hamana and animated by Production I.G, *The Prince of Tennis: The Two Samurai, The First Game* premiered in Japanese theaters in January 2005. Marking the first theatrical feature film in Takeshi Konomi's smash-hit sports manga franchise, the movie commemorated the anime's twentieth anniversary season. Accompanied in theaters by the chibi comedy short *Atobe's Gift*, the film was celebrated by franchise fans for introducing Ryoga Echizen, who later became a canonical fixture in the manga, and delivering exhilarating, physics-defying tennis rallies set against high-stakes maritime action.
