The Prince of Tennis Watch Order: Every Season, Movie, and OVA, in order
“From Seigaku's first tournament to the U-17 World Cup, with the three New Prince of Tennis pieces most lists skip.”
The original Prince of Tennis run is the easy part: one 178-episode TV series, a concert film, and the first movie, all essential viewing. A Gift from Atobe is a short comedy featurette that came out the same week as that movie, built around a chaotic sports festival Atobe throws at his own mansion, and it's a pure bonus, not required for the story.
After that comes the National Tournament stretch: three OVA arcs that finish the story the TV series left mid-tournament, plus a scattering of side-story specials (Another Story, Mini Theater, Message in a Bottle, Pair Prince) that fill in character moments without moving the main plot forward.
The New Prince of Tennis material gets confusing because the 2012 TV series that actually kicks it off is easy to miss, most lists jump straight to its specials and OVAs without it. It's included here, right before the specials that follow it. vs Genius10 continues the story from there, while Houkago no Oujisama is a pure comedy spin-off and skippable.
The modern stretch runs from 2018's Best Games OVA (a highlight-reel retelling of classic matches) through the Game of Future ONA, which is new story, to the two U-17 World Cup TV seasons that are the most recent chapters. Ryoma! The Prince of Tennis, a 2021 theatrical movie, sits between those releases as a standalone reimagining rather than a continuation, so it's tagged optional.
There's also a short bonus OVA tied to an old fan event tacked on at the end, pure extra material and tagged skippable.
The Original Series (2001–2005)
The route
A musical concert film, not story.
The Two Samurai, the first theatrical film.
A comedy companion piece to Movie 1, built around a chaotic sports festival at Atobe's mansion.
Released the same week as The Two Samurai as its comedic companion, which is why it sits right alongside that movie rather than elsewhere in the timeline.
The National Tournament Arc (2005–2010)
Finishes the tournament the TV series left mid-match.
The route
The semifinal stage of the National Tournament.
A side-story bridging past and future, not required for the main plot.
A short bonus tied to the Another Story II OVA.
New Prince of Tennis: Seigaku's Comeback (2012–2015)
The actual New Prince of Tennis TV series, easy to miss since most lists only list its specials and OVAs.
The core 13-episode TV season the rest of the New Prince of Tennis specials and OVAs build on; without it, those later entries have no season to follow.
The route
The Modern Era: Game of Future to U-17 World Cup (2018–2024)
The route
New story, not a retelling.
A standalone theatrical reimagining, not a continuation of the ongoing story.
A 2021 theatrical release positioned as its own retelling of the manga's start rather than a sequel, which is why it sits apart from the U-17 World Cup story around it.
The U-17 World Cup semifinal, the most recent chapter.
A short bonus OVA tied to an old fan event.
