Synopsis
In the winter of 1995, gentle high school student Mikiya Kokutou crosses paths with Shiki Ryougi, an enigmatic classmate who wears a traditional kimono beneath an oversized leather jacket. Intrigued by her stoic detachment, Mikiya pursues a friendship with her, discovering that Shiki possesses two distinct personalities: the cold female Shiki and the aggressive male SHIKI. Meanwhile, a serial killer begins slaughtering citizens across the city, leaving dismembered corpses posed in rainy alleyways. When Mikiya spots Shiki standing over a freshly butchered corpse with a blood-stained knife, his unconditional faith in her humanity is tested.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Mikiya refuses to believe Shiki is the murderer, keeping vigil outside her mansion every night to provide an alibi for her innocence. Driven to madness by Mikiya's pure, unyielding affection, the male personality SHIKI attempts to murder Mikiya in the woods to prevent their killer impulse from corrupting Mikiya's soul. However, Shiki's love for Mikiya paralyzes her blade, and she throws herself in front of an oncoming truck on a rainy highway to kill the murderous personality instead. Shiki falls into a two-year comatose state, with Mikiya visiting her hospital room daily with fresh flowers.
