Synopsis
When an alien biomechanical race known as the Radam invades Earth from orbital ring fortifications, conventional human weaponry proves powerless. Out of the sky falls an amnesiac young man known only as D-Boy, who utilizes a mysterious crystal to transform into the armored combat warrior Tekkaman Blade. Teaming up with the United Earth Defense Space Knights, D-Boy fights on the planetary frontlines. However, each victory extracts a devastating psychological toll, as D-Boy confronts the tragic reality that the enemy generals are his own mutated family members.
Background (may contain spoilers)
Directed by Hiroshi Negishi and animated by Tatsunoko Production, *Tekkaman Blade* is a 1992 science fiction mecha television anime reimagining Tatsunoko's classic 1975 series *Tekkaman: The Space Knight*. Broadcast for 49 episodes between February 1992 and February 1993 on TV Tokyo, the production featured mechanical designs by Tomohiro Kawano and character designs by Yorihisa Uchida. The series achieved widespread critical acclaim for its dark operatic tragedy, visceral combat choreography, and poignant vocal performance by Toshiyuki Morikawa.
