Synopsis
In a quiet Japanese suburb, ordinary high schooler Yomogi Asanaka encounters a mysterious drifter named Gauma, who claims to be a resurrected kaiju user. Their mundane conversation is interrupted when a colossal monster materializes and begins obliterating the city skyline. Gauma summons a glowing mechanical dragon called Dynazenon, pulling Yomogi and two nearby bystanders, Yume Minami and the shut-in Koyomi Yamanaka, into the cockpit. Discovering that their combined will powers the mechanical titan, this unlikely quartet must unite their fragmented lives, defeat rogue Kaiju Eugenicists, and protect the fragile human world from total destruction.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Studio Trigger and Tsuburaya Productions produced this twelve-episode mecha anime, which aired in spring 2021 as a successor project to 2018's *SSSS.Gridman* within the shared Gridman Universe. Directed by Akira Amemiya and scripted by Keiichi Hasegawa, the series featured mechanical designs by Shinji Aramaki and Tsuyoshi Nonaka. The anime won widespread praise from tokusatsu enthusiasts and general viewers alike for its masterfully naturalistic adolescent dialogue, intricate sound design, and exhilarating combining robot action. It eventually bridged narrative storylines into the 2023 crossover theatrical feature film *Gridman Universe*.
