Synopsis
Jikier is an extraterrestrial warrior from the distant planet Biretto who crash-lands on Earth after his spacecraft runs out of fuel while chasing space criminals. To purchase the exorbitantly expensive fuel required to return home, Jikier fuses with the body of mild-mannered policeman Kamesan and adopts the superhero persona of Cashman. However, Cashman refuses to fight crime for free, charging exorbitant cash fees for every villain vanquished and victim rescued. Balancing his mercenary business model with genuine heroism, the alien superhero foils bank robberies and mad scientists to save his return fare.
Background (may contain spoilers)
Based on the humorous short manga created by Akira Toriyama, *Saving Soldier Cashman* was adapted as a theatrical anime short for the 1997 V-Jump Festival. Featuring Toriyama's signature whimsical character designs, round mechanical aesthetics, and irreverent comedy, the adaptation was produced during the height of the creator's popularity. The OVA short delightfully satirized traditional superhero altruism through a pragmatic, money-driven alien protagonist, entertaining Toriyama fans with lighthearted action and dynamic comedic choreography.
