Story

Synopsis

When a malevolent golden comet streaks across the night sky, Eris, the mythological goddess of discord, resurrects by possessing the body of Eri Aizawa, a kind-hearted orphanage volunteer close to Cygnus Hyoga. Stealing the fabled Golden Apple, Eris traps Saori Kido inside its sinister thorns, siphoning the goddess divine life force to fully reincarnate her celestial physical form. Dispatched to the ruined Temple of Eris, Pegasus Seiya, Shiryu, Hyoga, and Shun must defeat five resurrected Ghost Saints. Burning his Cosmo to its utmost limit, Seiya fires the Sagittarius Arrow to obliterate the cursed deity.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Premiering at the Toei Manga Matsuri in July 1987, this landmark forty-five minute production was directed by Masayuki Akehi and marked the theatrical debut of Masami Kurumada *Saint Seiya* universe. The narrative introduced core plot frameworks (including Athena peril, time-limited rescues, and individual gauntlet duels against revived Saint factions) that defined future franchise cinematic entries. Supported by Seiji Yokoyama rousing symphonic musical score and elegant character design work by Shingo Araki, the film proved to be an immense box-office success.
