While enjoying an afternoon at the botanical gardens with her friends, Usagi Tsukino encounters Fiore, an enigmatic alien youth who claims a profound childhood bond with Mamoru Chiba. Having wandered the cosmos searching for a flower worthy of Mamoru's past kindness after Mamoru's parents died, Fiore returns to Earth carrying the Xenian Flower, an insidious parasitic botanical entity that feeds upon negative human emotion. Corrupted by the parasitic blossom, Fiore becomes consumed by obsessive jealousy toward Usagi, kidnapping Mamoru and piloting an asteroid blanketed with Xenian flowers on a collision course with Earth.

The Sailor Guardians storm the asteroid, but Fiore's parasitic vines drain their energy. When Fiore attempts to execute Usagi, Mamoru steps into the path of an energy spear to shield her. Recognizing Mamoru's love for Usagi, Fiore shatters his parasitic trance as the asteroid plummets toward Earth's atmosphere. Usagi transforms into Princess Serenity and unleashes the full power of the Silver Crystal, vaporizing the asteroid and saving the planet at the cost of her own life. Fiore's spirit offers his life nectar to Mamoru, allowing Mamoru to resurrect Usagi with a passionate, tearful kiss.
