Synopsis

Following the sudden disappearance of his father, timid high school youth Itsuki Iba reluctantly inherits Astral, a boutique dispatch agency providing specialized magical services to solve supernatural crises. Though lacking formal sorcery training, Itsuki possesses Glam Sight, a rare occluded eye capable of reading mystical flows and analyzing complex spells. Alongside an eccentric staff comprising Shinto priestesses, Celtic magicians, alchemists, and necromancers, Itsuki coordinates perilous client commissions. As aggressive rival associations like Ophion threaten their agency, Itsuki embraces his corporate leadership duties to safeguard his magical colleagues.

Background (may contain spoilers)

Adapted from Makoto Sanda's popular light novel series illustrated by pako, *Rental Magica* was produced by studio Zexcs and directed by Itsuro Kawasaki in 2007. Spanning twenty-four episodes, the anime was notably broadcast out of chronological order in Japan to highlight diverse standalone case files before building overarching guild rivalries. Praised for its meticulous research into authentic occult traditions, folkloric rituals, and distinct schools of worldwide esoteric mysticism, the series remains an engaging urban fantasy production.
