Story
Synopsis
Assigned what seems like a standard C-rank escort mission, Team 7 accompanies the timid young leader Shibuki back to his secluded home in the Hidden Waterfall Village. However, upon their arrival, ruthless rogue ninja led by former instructor Suien launch a surprise invasion to seize the village's sacred treasure: the Hero Water, an elixir that multiplies chakra at the cost of the drinker's lifespan. With Kakashi captured and the village falling under siege, Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke, and Sakura must make a daring stand. Naruto's fearless resolve inspires the cowardly leader to embrace his duty and fight for his people.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Screened at the Jump Festa 2004 tour, *Naruto: The Lost Story - Mission: Protect the Waterfall Village* is a forty-minute special animated by Studio Pierrot under the direction of Hayato Date. Masashi Kishimoto contributed to the character concepts, and the story was later adapted into a light novel written by Takashi Yano. Serving as an exciting showcase for Team 7 during their classic era, the special features memorable hand-to-hand combat, elemental water jutsu, and Naruto's signature ability to awaken courage within doubtful allies.

This is a special that only a true Naruto fan would purchase, not for viewing pleasure, but simply for owning another piece of the Naruto franchise. At most, a fan will watch it once then they'll put it on their shelf full of Naruto box sets and action figures.

Watch order
From the leaf village to the last shot of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, every movie, OVA, and special slotted exactly where the story actually needs it. No guesswork, no wrong order, no skipping the good stuff by accident.
-
1
Naruto
Where it all begins. Ninja academy, Team 7, and the arc that turns a loud orphan into someone worth rooting for.
-
2
Naruto: Find the Crimson Four-leaf Clover!
A light, low-stakes side mission. Skippable if you're in a hurry, fun if you're not.
-
3
Naruto: The Lost Story - Mission: Protect the Waterfall Village
Another breather special that doesn't touch the main plot, but it's classic early-Naruto goofiness.
-
4
Naruto the Movie 1: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow
The first movie, and it shows: simple stakes, snow, and a princess who needs rescuing. Fun, not essential.
-
5
Naruto the Movie 2: Legend of the Stone of Gelel
More ambition this time: an ancient artifact and a genuinely solid villain. Still non-canon, still enjoyable.
-
6
Naruto: Finally a Clash!! Jounin vs. Genin!
A short, tournament-style bonus episode. Mostly an excuse for the cast to fight each other. *We're not complaining.*
-
7
Naruto the Movie 3: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom
The strongest of the original trilogy. Higher stakes, better fights, genuinely worth the watch.
-
8
Naruto: The Cross Roads
Released years later, but the story belongs right here, before Team 7 as you know it changes for good. Don't let the release date fool you.
-
9
Naruto Shippuden
Two and a half years later. Everyone's taller, stronger, and the story finally gets serious.
-
10
Naruto Shippuden: Konoha Gakuen - Special
A comedic 'what if they were all in high school' detour. Purely for laughs, zero plot impact.
-
11
Naruto Shippuden the Movie 1
Naruto's first Shippuden-era movie, and honestly one of the weaker ones. Watch it for completeness, not for stakes.
-
12
Naruto Shippuden the Movie 2: Bonds
Better than the first, with a real emotional core tied to the Hyuga clan.
-
13
Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Will of Fire
A darker premise, kekkei genkai users vanishing one by one, and one of the more underrated entries.
-
14
Naruto Shippuden the Movie 4: The Lost Tower
Time travel, young Minato, and a genuinely fun standalone adventure.
-
15
Naruto: The Magic Genie and the Three Wishes
A gentle, kid-friendly short. Easy to skip, easy to enjoy if you do watch it.
-
16
Naruto x UT
Barely a story, more of a stylish crossover short. Blink and you'll miss it.
-
17
Naruto Shippuden: Chunin Exam on Fire! Naruto vs. Konohamaru!
A quick, low-stakes rivalry short. A nice palate cleanser between the heavier arcs.
-
18
Naruto Shippuden the Movie 6: Road to Ninja
The fan-favorite alt-universe movie. Genuinely worth watching, not just filler with better animation.
-
19
Naruto Shippuden the Movie 7: The Last
This one's canon. Naruto and Hinata's story gets its proper send-off here, so don't skip it.
-
20
Naruto Spin-Off: Rock Lee & His Ninja Pals
A full chibi comedy spin-off. Entirely optional, but if you love the side cast, it's a treat.
-
21
Boruto: Naruto the Movie
The torch passes. Naruto's now a father, and Boruto gets his real introduction.
-
22
Boruto: Naruto the Movie - The Day Naruto Became Hokage
A short, sweet epilogue that fills in exactly what the title promises.
-
23
Boruto: Jump Festa 2016 Special
A brief preview special, mostly for franchise completionists before the TV series starts.
-
24
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations
The next generation takes over. A slower burn at first, but it earns its place in the family.
-
25
Road of Naruto
A 20th-anniversary highlight reel: not canon, not required. Just a nice victory lap once you've finished everything else.
