Story

Synopsis

In an alternate totalitarian post-war Japan plagued by civil unrest and militant communist guerrillas, the government deploys the Special Armed Garrison, an elite militarized tactical unit known as the Kerberos Corps. During a violent subterranean sewer crackdown, shock trooper Kazuki Fuse hesitates to shoot a teenage courier girl carrying a satchel bomb, prompting her to detonate the explosive before his eyes. Plagued by guilt and demoted for psychological evaluation, Fuse forms an unexpected relationship with Kei Amemiya, who claims to be the deceased girl's older sister, dragging Fuse into an intricate web of inter-agency deception.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Kei is actually an operative for the Public Security Division, which set a trap to discredit and dismantle the Kerberos Corps by framing Fuse. However, the Kerberos internal shadow faction, the Wolf Brigade, anticipated the scheme and ambushes the rival agents inside the sewers, slaughtering the conspiracy team. After the massacre, Fuse's commander orders him to execute Kei to eliminate all witnesses and prove he has fully suppressed his human empathy. Weeping silently in the dark sewer, Fuse shoots Kei dead, definitively abandoning his humanity to remain an obedient, unfeeling beast within the pack.
