Story

Synopsis

In an alternate modern Japan, the oppressive Media Betterment Act authorizes armed government censors to violently confiscate and incinerate books deemed offensive to public morality. Standing against this censorship is the Library Defense Force, a militarized branch of public libraries dedicated to safeguarding literature under the Library Freedom Act. Enthusiastic Library Task Force recruit Iku Kasahara and her strict, beloved training officer Atsushi Doujo are assigned to protect a controversial author whose newly published novel is targeted for suppression following an act of urban terrorism that mirrors the book's fictional plot.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
When the Betterment Committee corners the author, the Library Defense Force undertakes an audacious operation to smuggle him into the British Embassy in Osaka to grant him political asylum. Doujo is severely shot and incapacitated during a highway ambush, forcing Iku to take sole command of the mission. Dodging sniper fire and roadblocks across Osaka, Iku successfully escorts the author onto sovereign embassy territory, dealing a massive legal blow to government censorship. In the hospital aftermath, Iku visits the recovering Doujo, and the two finally confess their romantic feelings and share a tender embrace.
