Synopsis

In the year 2225, a massive solar flare disaster creates the corrosive Geduld plasma sea, threatening interplanetary space travel. When the astronaut training station Liebe Delta is maliciously sabotaged, all adult instructors are killed, leaving 487 teenage cadets and young children trapped aboard the hidden prototype warship Ryvius. Thrust into the depths of space, brothers Kouji and Yuuki Aiba must navigate harrowing battles against hostile military forces. As supplies dwindle and rescue hopes fade, ideological factions, ruthless power struggles, and psychological hysteria tear the stranded student community apart from within.

Background (may contain spoilers)

Directed by Goro Taniguchi and animated by studio Sunrise, *Infinite Ryvius* is a landmark 1999 original science-fiction psychological television anime series written by Yousuke Kuroda. Spanning 26 episodes broadcast between October 1999 and March 2000 on TV Tokyo, the show earned the prestigious Excellence Award at the 5th Animation Kobe. Drawing thematic inspiration from William Golding's *Lord of the Flies*, the production garnered lasting recognition for its unvarnished examination of adolescent social hierarchy, totalitarian governance, and its memorable R&B and hip-hop musical score composed by Katsuhisa Hattori.
