Story

Synopsis

Focusing on the perspective of Samezuka Academy's elite swim team, this theatrical feature explores the competitive bond and emotional friction between captain Rin Matsuoka and his childhood rival Sousuke Yamazaki. Transferring to Samezuka for his final high school year, Sousuke joins Rin, Aiichiro Nitori, and Momotaro Mikoshiba to form a formidable medley relay squad. While Rin dreams of international athletic stardom, Sousuke harbors a grave physical secret that jeopardizes his competitive career. As regional tournaments arrive, the four athletes push their bodies to the limit to secure qualification for the national championships.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Sousuke conceals a debilitating shoulder injury, swimming through intense pain until his joint collapses during the hundred-meter butterfly qualifiers. Before the team medley relay, Sousuke confesses his injury to Rin, explaining that sharing one final championship race with his best friend was his ultimate athletic dream. Swimming with ferocious passion alongside Nitori and Momotaro, the Samezuka relay team touches the wall in triumphant qualification. Sousuke undergoes surgery and accepts retirement from competitive swimming with complete peace, joyfully cheering Rin onward toward the global Olympic stage.
