Synopsis
This theatrical feature bridges the emotional narrative between Dive to the Future and the global competitive circuit, recapping Haruka Nanase's transition into collegiate swimming in Tokyo. Training under former Olympian Ryuuji Azuma, Haruka reconnects with childhood friend Ikuya Kirishima, helping him overcome lingering middle school abandonment trauma through competitive races in the pool. Meanwhile, Makoto Tachibana discovers his true vocation as a swimming coach for children, and Rin Matsuoka refines his butterfly technique in Sydney. As national qualifiers approach, the young men must define their personal motivations for swimming on the international stage.

The movie integrates new transitional animation bridging the Tokyo collegiate championships with the international arena. Haruka and Ikuya deliver a breathtaking joint performance in the individual medley, cementing their restored childhood friendship and mutual respect. Rin returns from Australia to cheer Haruka on, and both swimmers officially qualify for the All-Japan Invitational alongside global competitors. The film concludes with Haruka standing on the edge of the international competition pool, looking out over cheering stadium crowds with newfound maturity, ready to embrace the global swimming arena in the two-part Final Stroke cinematic finale.
