Story

Synopsis

In a technologically advanced century where society relies completely on computerized, self-driving artificial intelligence automobiles, sudden mechanical glitches pose catastrophic public hazards. To combat runaway vehicles that endanger civilian lives, the specialized public safety agency eX-Driver deploys skilled drivers who pilot fossil-fuel, manually operated sports cars. Talented driver Nina Anna and her disciplined partner Rei Kazama are dispatched to intercept an anomalous runaway transport speeding toward a populated district. Navigating high-speed expressway traps, tactical ambushes, and corporate espionage, the duo relies on precision steering and drifting to neutralize the algorithmic menace.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Released theatrically in April 2002 as a prequel short to *eX-Driver the Movie*, this high-octane twenty-seven minute feature was directed by Shinichi Watanabe and animated by Actas. Conceived by renowned *Oh My Goddess!* creator Kosuke Fujishima, the franchise is celebrated for its loving homage to classic twentieth-century gasoline-powered automobiles like the Lancia Stratos and Caterham Super Seven. Car enthusiasts praise the production for its authentic engine sound recording, realistic vehicle physics, and dynamic highway chase choreography.
