Quiet high school freshman Aoi Yukimura prefers indoor crafts and solitary routines, having developed severe acrophobia after an unfortunate playground injury in her childhood. Her tranquil lifestyle is turned upside down when energetic childhood friend Hinata Kuraue tracks her down and insists they resume their long-forgotten pledge to climb a mountain together. Reluctant and anxious about ascending high altitudes, Aoi reluctantly joins Hinata on small excursions around Mount Tenran and Mount Takao. Along the way, Aoi discovers the intricate joy of outdoor gear, trail cooking, and scenic vistas, gradually making new hiking friends while discovering the inner resilience needed to conquer higher summits.

Encouragement of Climb (Yama no Susume) is based on the slice-of-life mountaineering manga by Shiro, serialized in Comic Earth Star. Produced by animation studio 8bit and directed by Yusuke Yamamoto, the television anime premiered in January 2013 as a series of charming five-minute short episodes. Praised for its accurate hiking techniques, authentic real-world mountain locations in Saitama Prefecture, and tender character growth, the series expanded into longer television formats across four acclaimed seasons.

Encouragement of Climb: Prequel / 1st Season: Spring
Aired 2022-10-04
A fine continuation of Encouragement of Climb , even if I wish it was a bit longer. An extra episode or two of not clip show would have made enough difference to raise it to five stars.
