Synopsis

Struggling to pass college entrance examinations while scraping by on meager part-time wages in Tokyo, poor rural student Hideki Motosuwa envies city dwellers who own persocoms: humanoid personal computers used for work and entertainment. Walking home from work one evening, Hideki discovers an elegant, blonde persocom discarded in a trash pile. Bringing the offline android back to his modest apartment, Hideki powers her on, only to find she can speak only a single word: Chi. Uncovering that Chi may be a legendary Chobits machine with human emotions, Hideki explores the nature of artificial intimacy.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Broadcast twenty-six episodes on TBS from April to September 2002, *Chobits* was produced by studio Madhouse and directed by Morio Asaka. Adapting the bestselling manga created by CLAMP, the anime explored philosophical questions surrounding artificial intelligence, human loneliness, and modern digital intimacy long before real-world robotics mainstreamed. Supported by lush, colorful animation and a whimsical, romantic pop-jazz soundtrack composed by K-Taro Takanami, the series became a defining cultural touchstone of early-2000s anime.
