Biography
Hiroyuki Shimazu is a Japanese storyboard artist and episode director whose career in television animation began in 1990 as a production assistant on Chibi Maruko-chan [1]. He went on to work as an assistant director and storyboard artist on Heisei Inu Monogatari Bow [1], and built an extensive storyboard resume across long-running series including Hunter x Hunter (2011) and The Irregular at Magic High School (2014) [1]. He also contributed storyboards to Netflix's Godzilla anime trilogy, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, and Godzilla: The Planet Eater (2017-2018) [1][2], and to Re:Zero Season 2 (2020) [1]. Across three and a half decades, Shimazu has worked primarily as a storyboard specialist rather than a credited series director, contributing individual episodes' visual direction to a wide range of Japanese television anime.
