Story

Synopsis

In the twenty-first century, humanoid animals known as Beastmen emerge into public view after centuries of living underground. Michiru Kagemori is a normal high school track athlete whose world upends when she suddenly transforms into a tanuki beastman. Fleeing persecution from human society, Michiru takes refuge in Anima City, a vibrant, lawless haven built exclusively for Beastmen. There, she crosses paths with Shirou Oogami, an immortal wolf detective dedicated to protecting the vulnerable. Together, they investigate corrupt corporate conspiracies, street gangs, and the mysterious scientific anomaly that turned Michiru from an ordinary human into a beast.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Studio Trigger created this original twelve-episode television anime series directed by Yoh Yoshinari, the visionary director behind *Little Witch Academia*. Renowned screenwriter Kazuki Nakashima, celebrated for *Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann* and *Kill la Kill*, penned the dynamic scripts. The series premiered on Netflix Japan in March 2020 before its television debut on Fuji TV's +Ultra programming block. Featuring a hyper-stylized pop art color palette, vibrant kinetic animation, and a synthwave musical score by mabanua, the project earned widespread acclaim for its kinetic action choreography and sharp social commentary on segregation and prejudice.
