Synopsis
In the gleaming futuristic metropolis of Metro City in the year 2043, brilliant scientist Doctor Tenma creates an advanced robotic boy named Astro in the likeness of his deceased son Tobio. Cast out when Tenma realizes Astro can never age like a human, the kindhearted android is adopted by kindly roboticist Doctor O'Shay. Blessed with rocket flight, super strength, and high-tech weaponry, Astro uses his abilities to defend citizens from rogue automatons and disasters. Amid growing political bigotry, Astro strives tirelessly to bridge understanding and forge harmony between humans and robotic beings.

Written by Keiichi Hasegawa and Sadayuki Murai, the third major animated adaptation modernized the classic franchise through sleek digital animation, cinematic widescreen framing, and complex philosophical storylines examining robot civil rights and artificial consciousness. The series successfully introduced the Godfather of Manga's legendary creation to twenty-first century global audiences.
