Synopsis

Kaoru, Aoi, and Shiho are three elementary school girls endowed with extraordinary Level 7 psychic abilities, making them the most powerful espers on Earth. Serving the special government agency B.A.B.E.L., they neutralize paranormal hazards and prevent rogue esper crimes with overwhelming telekinetic, teleportation, and psychometric powers. Because of their rebellious attitudes and destructive tendencies, ordinary human supervisor Kouichi Minamoto is assigned to guide them as their field commander and guardian. Minamoto strives to nurture their moral growth, hoping to prevent a foretold dystopian future where the children lead an esper uprising.

Background (may contain spoilers)

Produced by SynergySP and directed by Keiichiro Kawaguchi, *Zettai Karen Children* adapts the comedic superhero manga written and illustrated by Takashi Shiina, serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday. Premiering in April 2008 on TV Tokyo, the 51-episode television series balanced high-octane psychic battles with lighthearted situational comedy and found-family melodrama. Character designs were adapted by Junji Nishiki, while Kotaro Nakagawa provided an energetic orchestral score. The show gained substantial popularity in Japan, later inspiring an original video animation and a darker spin-off series focusing on antagonist Kyousuke Hyoubu.
